Bangalore, Apr 13: IT major Infosys on Friday announced changes in the top management level, with CEO and Managing Director Nandan M Nilekani taking over as Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors with effect from June 22, 2007.

Announcing this at a press conference called to announce the company's results for the previous fiscal, company Non-Executive Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy said Nilekani had voluntarily decided to relinquish his post as the CEO and managing director to Kris Gopalakrishnan, COO, President and Joint Managing Director.

S D Shibulal, Head, Worldwide Customer Delivery, would be the new Chief Operating Officer.

Nilekani said that having both an executive chairman and CEO would best serve the organisztion. ''We believe in collective leadership, so we have brought in this model. It is a policy of the company that founders need not necessarily succeed in our organization. We have decided to keep on changing the baton. It is important to lead by example and practice meritocracy. In my new position, I will be a brand ambassador and deal with broad industry issues,'' he added.
