Bengaluru, Jun 6 (DHNS): The State government on Friday said renovation of Raj Bhavan done at the cost of Rs 4 crore was a ‘routine exercise’ and charges made against Governor Vajubhai Vala were baseless.
Principal Secretary to Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (RPAR) E V Ramana Reddy said in a press release that the building maintenance or renovation is taken up once in three or five years as a routine exercise, and that the process was initiated prior to Vala assuming office.
"The Governor had not demanded any renovation work at the Raj Bhavan. The charges made against the Governor in the media are not only false, but also baseless," the note states. The statement follows media reports outlining information provided by the PWD to an RTI query, which said that the renovation works were taken up at Rs 4 crore.
It had come to light that the government had also given exemption from the tender process for these works under the Section 4 (G) of Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Rules.
