Udupi, Apr 20: The Suvarna Arogya and Aahara Mela was inaugurated at Board High School premises here on Wednesday April 18.

The three day event was inaugurated by Hemavati Heggade, wife of Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade. Speaking on the occasion, she stressed on the need to adopt proper food habits which are in sync with the changing seasons.

She also cited junk food as the cause for many health disorders and advised people to avoid the same.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by medical education minister V S Acharya.

MLA Raghupati Bhat called upon the members of the public to take advantage of the health camp.

The Aahara Mela will comprise of as many as 36 food stalls while the Arogya Mela will comprise of health check-ups with facilities like free ECG, ultrasound, X-ray and blood tests.

Former vice-chancellor of Manipal University Prof B M Hegde and others were present.
