Puttur, Apr 23: In yet another assault on womanhood, a middle-aged man raped a Dalit widow near Keyyur here on Friday April 20.  The accused is however absconding eversince.

The accused has been identified as Raghunath Rai (46), a resident of Madav near Keyyur here.  On Friday, the victim had gone to the nearby woods to fetch mangoes.  It had rained on that day and owing to heavy storm, a lot of mangoes had fallen in the woods and since no one else was at home, she had gone to the woods to fetch them.

But before she could reach the woods, Raghunath stopped her at a deserted place and raped her.  Victim's husband had died 3 years ago and she was living with her two children.  She was working in a cashew factory here.

The Puttur police have registered a case in this regard and are searching for the accused.
