Norway hold Germany 1-1 in women's World Cup

Ottawa, June 12 (IANS): Norway earned a 1-1 draw against Germany in a hard-fought encounter in the Women's World Cup football tournament here.

Anja Mittag gave Germany a lead just six minutes after starting on Thursday. She was at hand to tap in the rebound created by her teammate's long strike, reports Xinhua.

It was her fourth goal of the tournament following her hat-trick in their opening 10-0 whipping of Cote d'Ivoire.

However, the two-time world champions were denied the lead in the second half. Maren Mjelde scored for the 1995 edition winners Norway with a superb free-kick in the 61st minute.

With Germany and Norway both on top of Group B, everything would be decided in their final matches in the group stage.
