Mangalore, Apr 24: The terminated employees of MCC electricity department staged a protest here on Monday April 23 against the MCC decision to hand over maintenance to private parties.

More than 40 employees who were recently served with termination notices following MCC’s handing over of electricity maintenance of the city to new contractor.

The staff who have been given termination notices were working in the MCC electricity department for long said that despite repeated requests by them in the past to treat them as permanent labourers, MCC had not taken any action. 

 

“Tired by this, we went to the High Court which in turn asked to contact State Contract Employees Consultation Board.  The Board committee later said that contract system must be stopped in MCC.  But MCC did not adhere to this even a Gazetteer was published by the government.

Finally when the electricity department contractor changed, MCC served termination to these employees with a view that maintenance has been handed over to private party.
