Beltangady, Apr 25: Neriya gram panchayat near here was a dumb witness to transfer fiasco on Tuesday April 24 after the secretary who had been transferred refused to abide by the government order.

One Ratnavati was rendering her services as secretary of Neriya gram panchayat for sometime now.  She had been transferred from Neriya on January 10, 2007.  But she did not hand over the charge.  Transfer order was repeated in the months of February and March.

On Tuesday TP chief executive officer personally went to GP office along with the transfer order.  But Ratnavati once again refused to accept the transfer order and said that her transfer is the handiwork of GP president who is involved in land encroachment.

“I have not done any mistake.  There are no charges of corruption or lapse in duty against me.  Then why should I be transferred?  This is dirty game of politics.  The chief minister himself has cancelled my transfer.  I will not hand over charge at any cost,” she thundered.

This resulted in exchange of heated argument between CEO and secretary.  But Ratnavati did not give in and finally locked the GP office and went home.  But the CEO broke open the door with the help of GP staff, took out the records and handed over the charge to Kalmanja GP secretary Jayakeerti.

Later CEO Vasantraj Shetty said that Jayakeerti has been given charge as per the oral order of the senior officials.
