Bangalore, Apr 25: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the government would decide on declaring a State holiday on thespian Raj Kumar’s birthday.

He was speaking after unveiling Dr Raj’s bust at Kempegowda Circle on Raj Kumar’s 79th birth anniversary, organised by Akhila Karnataka Raj Kumar Abhimanigala Sangha (AKARS) on Tuesday. He said he would discuss with his Cabinet colleages on the possibility of declaring April 24 a State holiday.

The Chief Minister said that the design of Raj’s memorial at Kanteerava studio was being finalised. “Suggestions from Raj Kumar’s family members will be taken into consideration,” he said, and added that the construction work of the memorial will begin soon.

Prior to this, AKARS president Sa Ra Govind, H.D. Gangaraju urged the Chief Minister to declare State holiday on Raj’s birthday.

Parvathamma Raj Kumar, Raghavendra Raj Kumar, Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao, producer Rockline Venkatesh, Dr Bhujanga Shetty of Narayana Nethralaya were present.
