Bangalore, April 29: Recklessness proved costly for a group of five city-based teenagers, when their car involved in an accident on Bangalore-Mysore road, late on Friday night. Two died and three others sustained serious injuries when they were heading to a 24X7 coffee bar near Maddur.

The deceased are Tanvi Rao (17) and Amudan Mani (24). Tanvi, a Vidya Niketan student, was awaiting her Plus-2 results. She is the daughter of engineer Vivek K Rao, a resident of Indiranagar. Amudan Mani had completed BBM and awaiting admission to an MBA course in Singapore. He is the son of Wachagan Mani, an Indian Revenue Services officer from Kolkata.

All three are students of Bishop Cotton’s Girls’ School awaiting for Plus-2 results.

They attended an energy-drink promotion party at a five-star hotel in the city. Around 2 am, they went for a drive on Mysore Road to the coffee bar. Amudan drove the car belonging to a family friend. While Tanvi occupied the front seat, the other were in the back. Around 3.15 am, they reached Ramanagaram.

“At the entrance of Ramanagaram, there is a blind curve. One road leads to the town and another is the highway leading to Mysore. Though none of them were drunk, Amudan was overspeeding. He lost control near this curve and rammed into the median and an electric pole. Tanvi died on the spot and Amudan died in hospital. The other three girls were thrown out of the car and sustained injuries,’’ Purushottam, Ramanagaram traffic SI said.

The Ramanagaram police handed over Tanvi’s body to her parents on Saturday after the post-mortem. Amudan’s body was handed over to his guardian. “If Amudan and Tanvi had fastened their seat belts, their chances of survival would have been better,’’ another police officer said.
