Mangalore, May 1: The city will have no water on Tuesday May 1. Since the work of joining the water pipe at Thumbe will be completed only on Tuesday night, the stoppage of water will be total.
So it is almost sure that the people will have tough time on Tuesday. Because of the preparations of elections in Ullal by-election, some of the top officials are not available on phone too. Moreover, only a few tankers have been pressed into action duty in the city, making it difficult for the people to get water.
Though the work of setting up the pipes has been completed on Monday April 30 night, welding work is not completed. Sources said that by the time pipeline is made available for use it will be late in the evening on Tuesday.
People are facing tough times since water supply had been erratic and irregular on Monday April 30 itself. However, there was no one to answer people's call or at least to put things in order.
Though it was made known earlier that water supply would be stopped while transferring the water pipes along the National Highway 48 owing to four-lane works, it was not known to many. This had caused several problems and confusion among people.
Since elections are already announced it is not even possible for the corporators and mayors to get into the fields directly and work. Officials are not responding even to the calls by mayor or corporators.
