Udupi, May 1: Much to the relief of the citizens, the natural tank Nairkere at Brahmagiri will be de-silted in the days ahead.

The de-silting work has been taken up by former councillor of town municipality Renold Praveen Kumar with the help of NRIs Premananda Shetty, Mohammed Rafique and local entrepreneur Praveen Shetty at a cost of Rs 1.5 lac.

Until seven years ago, the area had been filled with silt and was being used as a dumping ground. In the year 2000 it was desilted and a compound wall costing Rs 8 lac had been constructed.

The de-silting work will be taken up again after a gap of seven years.

Narayana Sherigar of Ambica Engineering Works has been appointed to execute the works.
