Mangalore, May 2: May Day celebration committee of the city observed May Day by organizing various sports competitions and cultural programmes on Tuesday May 1.
A total of 18 different trade unions joined together for this celebration. The programme was held in Town Hall.
C H Kunhabu, MLA of Majeshwar was the chief guest of the programme. Abdul Salim, deputy mayor presided over the programme. Earlier, a procession was held from Bunder to Town Hall.
Later various competitions such as revolutionary songs competition, speech, and drawing were held for the children of the labourers. The labourers had tug-of-war competition among themselves.
A seminar on the importance of May Day celebration and importance of May Day in today’s context was held on the same occasion. A S Acharya and T R Bhat of Corporation Bank presented papers on the above topics.
