Verdict against UP ex-legislator in murder case August 5

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS): A special court here on Wednesday fixed August 5 for delivering its verdict in a murder case against former Uttar Pradesh legislator Udai Bhan Singh.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Praveen Singh reserved judgement in the case while asking the accused to file a written submission before the date fixed for the order.

The former legislator is facing trial with five others on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and intimidation.

Besides him, others facing trial in the case are Sandeep Singh, Ashok Mishra, Raj Nath Mishra, Mabud Khan and Vishal Singh.

The prosecution alleged that Udai Bhan Singh, in collusion with others, entered into a criminal conspiracy to eliminate Rakesh Pandey, an eyewitness in the murder case of Vakeel Shukla and two others in Gopiganj, before he could give evidence in court against them.

Pandey was allegedly shot dead by Santosh Singh Feb 17, 2003. Santosh Singh and other two accused, Vinod Kumar Singh and Bashir Khan, died during the pendency of the trial and another accused, Kallu, was declared as a proclaimed offender.

Currently serving life sentence in the Shukla murder case, Udai Bhan is lodged in Fatehgarh Jail in Uttar Pradesh.
