Mysuru: Prof K S Bhagwan gets anonymous threat letter saying 'count your days'

Mysuru, Sep 10 (DHNS): Close on the heels of a Facebook post warning to eliminate rationalist Prof K S Bhagwan, an anonymous letter warning to kill him was received at his house here on Wednesday,The letter in English was delivered by the postman around 12.45 pm at Bhagwan’s house on Udayaravi road, Kuvempunagar, according to his wife. The letter was duly handed over to Kuvempunagar police station, who have been guarding the house round-the-clock.

The typewritten letter address Bhagwan derogatorily and reads as follows: “Don’t relax thinking you are safe. Haavina dvesha 12 years. 3 successful. Next you. Will never miss the target. No police security will save you when we come.We know how to do. Count your days” (sic)

According to the investigators, the letter may have originated from Bengaluru, as per the seal on the cover.

Following researcher M M Kalburgi’s murder in Dharwad on August 30, a Hindu outfit leader had put a post on his Facebook account warning Bhagwan as the next target. The police who had arrested the leader and provided gunman escort to Bhagwan.

What is more important is ethics and ethical practices in present day world. Every one is a dignified person. One can get mesmerised by one line of thought, believing such a truth is ultimate and nothing else matters.

A person works hard to win daily bread for family, works to run life engine keep moving and after work he/she expects peaceful sleep. That which feeds him/her is more important than anything else. Belief in religious texts or spiritual journey is left to individual choice. People who have access to and exposed to variety of texts and variety of ideological paths tend to compare one wit the other or tend to come out with bold observations which can only be appreciated by an open mind. If people do not have diversity in thinking then where is the possibility of creativity? India will be plagued by religious sentiments for few more decades I believe. Many people tried to capitalise on emotional side of religious beliefs and made wealth for themselves as well as occupied power to rule nation. Religion is the single most contentious issue in India, most of the beliefs are blindly dumped on innocent poor people who are majority in India. Education is the single most tool that will empower majority of poor people to take a stand for themselves on any subject. Imagine the impact of total literacy of people in India.

Danger is impending??? There is bad news for saviours of rigid notions. A revolution will emerge out but few precious lives will be lost. Second freedom struggle yet to unleash.

If you are a Scholar or Intellectual, use your intelligence to find some solution to the farmer suicides, Load shedding, Civic problems, Law & order problems and plenty of other issues. How can anyone call them scholars for mocking a religion? How can they be promoted as University Chancellors or as Vice Chancellors? How come they get handsome Salaries by wasting Tax Payer money on them? Is it not the Government mocking the Tax payer too????

They should be behind bars forever because they spoil the atmosphere. What is their contribution to the society other than mocking peaceful religion? Why Government is promoting such stupids by providing them free lands, bunglows, sites, high paid jobs??

Can anyone please explain what one can gain by killing somebody. If you get rid of one communist, 10 communists will be born. Why can’t we follow our respective religion devoutly and leave the rest to God.
Remember the movie Da Vinci Code. The maker of that movie has portrayed Jesus in a very bad light. Did we Christians go gunning for him. No!! Instead we left him into the hands of God. He is Dan Brown and he is a communist. Now he is suffering from some illness. That is a punishment for him.
So let us leave all the communists who speak against God and all religions to their own devices, instead of staining our hands with blood.

I do not understand the necessity, especially for an 'intellectual', of 'mocking Hinduism' to show ones dissent of some or all of its tenets. If one is actually an intellectual, is it too much to expect him/her to engage in a sensible, civil, learned and socially amenable debate? Why does she/he need to get nasty? Is it because being nasty attracts immediate attention of both supporters and opponents? Isn't this akin to seeking cheap publicity?

A democracy in which there is no place for people whose views create friction-of-thoughts is sad. We inherit mixture of USA UK democracies. In a genuine democratic setup there always is scope for betterment n improvement. Fruits of democracy is not to limit thoughts or not to restrain someone having their say. When some people engage with ideological debates, why target individuals and physically eliminate them forever? Does it close the debate or enthuse more people to join the movement?

Most of the people do not keep security bcz they feel they live in a democratic country where right to live and right to life is guaranteed, therefore mingle freely. Cowards will use this weak link to their advantage. No one has right to take life.

For everyone, journey of life starts with a naught. Thought process gets trained by our surroundings, mentors, and whatever experience comes on the way will cumulatively builds up beliefs n convictions that are bound for changes in due course.
Mistakes do happen but spirit of life shouldn't be compromised. People would choose to read whatever they want and bring out lot of inconsistencies, lot of paradoxes in public forum. They don't harm anyone physically. We have a CHOICE - to read the views of the critic and agree to his views or just ignore. That should be the logical end. But some intolerant groups take generic criticism at individual level and target them Physically. It is natural to get doubts, instead of clearing them in a dignified way, he/she will end up counting days.

Who is superior to judge what is right and what is wrong WHEN THERE IS NO FINAL WORD ON ANYTHING between our births n deaths? ???

Democracy is good when every one understands his duties and rights. But if politians try to appease one and ignore the other for few votes, then problem erupts. Even the religius leaders create trouble by rediculing the other religeon and print pamphlets. If everyone follows live and let others live we don’t need a government., but is it possible?

Certain sects of people always claimed their ideology revolves around tolerance, acceptance of criticism,...and all those beautiful slogans...I truly believed they believed in it ...These are the same people who were worried when ayatollah of Shia Iran issued death threat on Salman rashdi...And this are the same people who welcomed tasleema nasreen ...If they believed in such tolerance of criticism they had the right to do it...when bloggers in distant land were killed this are the same people who claimed ...certain religion doesnt accept criticism...They were in forefront when charlie hebdo incident happened...But we have seen other face of their hypocritic tolerance...when jewish background Wendy dongier couldnt enter the country,M.F Hussain had to runaway to distant land,T.V station was bombed in T.N for making a show on tali ,...etc..Well if these people believed in tolerance and acceptance they should have shown itin their action not only in RSS slogans and rallies...I dont claim what Bhagwan doing is right ...when you claim other type of extremism is wrong and we believe in acceptance....when you face same type of criticism on your religion...you believe same like other type of extremism...What can I conclude is this type of tolerance, acceptance claim was just like "hawaabaazi"...When some people of "M" did crime at that time every "M" had to condemn it or else he is termed terrorist sympathiser even if he keep mum...but here when a "non M" does same crime he doesnt have to follow same rules but he will openly justifies the criminality...coz no one will brand him with "T" word...that is the difference...

Since youa re biased you are not able to notice the large gap. The Non M who you talked about, are far more tollarant. For instance they watched a movie like PK which made mockery of their faith. Else others would have bombed the theater… don’t you think?… on the other hand your friends ensured ban on a movie like vishwaroopam which hardly has anyting offensive. Charlie magazine is even better not to talk,. One set of folks don’t get provoked that easily,,., but urinating on the idols has realy hurt the folks. Come out of the biased mindset and you will understand who is more balanced.

Atheism does not means we can hurt feelings of believers !! If we not believe something its up to us and we should not defame others for their practices... ! If some one want to go Thirupati and have a haircut there its his belief. If I start opposing him and call him an idiot then obviously there is a chance that he will revolt against me....! The beauty of USA democracy is everyone is entitled to have their own beliefs and opinions, same time have space for criticism of extreme nature. This freedom and liberty is guaranteed to only and only to USA nationals. As a citizen of that country, he or she can engage in scholarly debates both within academia and in public forum. That's the way a multilingual, multicultural open society operates. That's the reason people like to migrate to USA. That's the reason USA is in forefront in every sphere of human endeavour.
Unfortunately as Indian citizens, despite India proclaiming to be sophisticated democracy, we don't have that kind of liberty to talk n discus certain issues. that's why we are a stagnant nation, a nation where people kill each other for difference of opinion. why should we feel hurt just bcz someone else has a different opinion? At present day world, slaughtering human beings in the name of ideology is cowardice and shows timidity. Something that is robust will sustain all tests of time. Fear comes bcz one day people know their entire belief system would collapse and hence the reaction to eliminate critics. This process will continue as long as people don't evolve in thought process. Being rigid and insulated to changes will cause more harm than boasting victory for eliminating critics.

Long live patrons of intolerance !!!

    Friend,

Does prof. Bhagwan falls into KKK type movement which is extremely right wing racist in nature? most nearest match to KKK from Indian context wud be organizations such as simi rss bd vhp etc.

BTW in the USA, those who wish to subscribe to KKK ideology, they are free to do so. No one is stopping them to share common opinion. They are entitled to be part of KKK. On a larger scale when KKK opinion gathers momentum then ofcourse idea of USA democracy is redundant. But as of now let me have my opinion which could be prone to changes when KKK takes over USA.

What has Prof. Bagwan done so much that what he says is a threat to Hindu Culture. If someone says something about your god ignore them. Thats what civilised people do. If you think that he deserves what he is getting then what is really the difference between what you think and what extremist (whome you hate) think.

I am an atheist. Every time here in comments section brings up god, it offends me. I just post some comments in reply, and i ignore it. I dont go threatening them cause what they said offended me.
