Five killed in Syria car bombing

Damascus, Sep 15 (IANS): At least five people were killed and five others injured when a car bomb went off near a government building in Syria's Hasakah province on Tuesday.

The explosives-laden vehicle blew up in front of water resources department in northwestern Hasakah, Xinhua news agency reported.

The blast came a day after two suicide car bombings ripped separately through a government troop-checkpoint and a position of Kurdish security forces in Hasakah, in which over 30 people were killed and tens of others, mostly women and children, wounded.

The Syrian foreign ministry condemned the attacks, saying the terrorist groups want to "paralyse" lives of people and children by their suicide bombings.

On June 25, Islamic State militants unleashed a major offensive, storming the southern part of Hasakah. At the end of July, Syrian army and Kurdish fighters managed to drive the militants out of the province.
