Mangalore, Jul 19: A request was made to the state government to reassess its language policy and notify the schools to instruct education in English itself by the Catholic Sabha of Mangalore unit on behalf of the students and parents. A memorandum to this effect was submitted by the Sabha to the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy through M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district recently.

According to the press release from the Catholic Sabha, the rule of the state government that all the schools started after 1994 should implement Kannada as the medium of instruction from 1st standard to 5th standard, has created a sense of insecurity in the minds of students as well as the parents.

In the current global scenario sending children to English medium schools is unavoidable and hence government could keep Kannada as a mandatory subject and not as a medium of instruction, suggested the press release.
