Mangalore, Jul 19: Withdraw with immediate effect the licenses that were given to 110 foreign trawlers to operate in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), urged the Coastal Karnataka Fishermen Action Committee (CKFAC) to the Centre at its general meeting held at Uchila near here, on Wednesday, 2007.

The committee quoted cases where even when the ban on fishing was in force the foreign trawlers were fishing.

Pramod Madhwaraj, president of the committee, in a statement stated that there was significant decrease in catch since 1990.

Further the committee expressed its concern over several accidents that took place in the coastal district. It also expressed concern over the proposal to divert Netravati waters. This would lead to extinction of marine creatures stated the committee.
