Beltangady, Jul 19: A married person and an unmarried woman committed suicide by consuming poison in a shop after their illicit relationship came to light, said sources here on Wednesday July 18.  

They are being identified as Sundar Shettigar (45), a resident of Poonja 5 cents colony in Arambody village and Meenakshi (26), daughter of Chennappa Poojary, a resident of Arambody school vicinity.

It is said that they had illegal and suspicious relationship for quite sometime now. However, the news of their relationship was widely spread across the village recently. It was believed that they have committed suicide since they were disgraced that illicit affair was exposed.  

Sundar had not returned home after attending religious rites in one Lokesh’s house on Tuesday, July 17 night.  However they were reportedly found to have committed suicide in his bidi branch next morning. 

Sundar who had married long ago had grown up children.  He was working at a bidi branch. Meenakshi had been a spinster who was engaged in the profession of bidi rolling.  The illicit affair blossomed between them as she used to come to his shop in order to return the finished bidis.  Their affair was blown to greater heights by the villagers. 

Mohandas Shettigar, son of Sundar Shettigar has filed complained with the Venoor police in this regard.
