Bank Merger opposed: A protest against the privatization and merger of the banks in the country was staged and organized by the Udupi district bank employees union (UDBEU) in front of the regional office of Syndicate bank here on Thursday, July 19.

This protest was held on the occasion the 38th Bank National Day celebrations. Members of the unions raised slogans against privatization and merger of banks.
 
Nominated: The DGM of Mangalore Refinaries and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) P A Jose has been appointed to the board of Studies of Roshini Nilaya School of Social Work for three years, as per a press release.

Literary Competitions: A Tulu literary competition for the year 2007-08 will be conducted by Madipu, a magazine published by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.

The said competition will be held in three categories – poetry, stories and articles. The prizes for the same will be given in each category.   

A V Baliga Institute of Social Sciences and Rural Management: Principal of SMS first grade college K Narayanan will be inaugurating the Talent Day celebrations. President of the Institute P V Bhandary will preside over the function held at the institute premises, Harady, today at 10 am. 

Konkani Kutam, Bahrain: Presentation of ‘Konkani Kutam Award 2007’ to Eric Ozario, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy president will be held today at Sandesha Kala Bhavan, Bajjodi, Mangalore at 7 pm.

Administrator of Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital Fr Denis D’Sa is the chief guest, Maandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto and DK District Congress Committee VP Ivan D’Souza will be the guests of honour. Konkani Kutam (Bharain) convenor Richard Moras will also be present on the occasion.
