Chelsea players fully behind coach Mourinho: Captain Terry

London, Oct 4 (IANS): Defending champions Chelsea captain John Terry has thrown his support behind under-fire head coach Jose Mourinho, who is admittedly going through the "worst" period of his managerial career.

Chelsea have collected just eight points from a possible 24 this season after losing 1-3 to Southampton at the Stamford Bridge stadium here on Saturday evening, fuelling rumours of Mourinho's ouster.

But Terry is confident there is enough quality in the dressing room to get the club out of the mess and certainly won’t be laying the blame at the Portuguese manager’s door.

"We have a big group of players and we have the best manager who we remain behind and we remain together. That is what you do in tough circumstances. I have been here a long time and I have seen managers come and go and if anyone is going to get us out of this hole it is going to be Jose Mourinho," Terry was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk on Saturday.

“The players will remain together and fight, and keep fighting for the supporters because they were excellent on Saturday. We are not in the familiar position we are normally in. We find ourselves in it and it is down to the group of players and the manager to get ourselves out of it and we must do that very soon," defender Terry, who is playing for the club since 1998, added.

The former England captain also said this team is no different to the one that won the EPL title and urged his players to keep fighting.

“Generally I think we are looking low on confidence but we have a big group of players in that dressing room and we need to stand up, which we will do. There is no difference from last season," the 34-year-old, who was benched for the last two matches before being fielded on Saturday, pointed out.

“We need to be hungry like we were. Like many teams find, it is difficult to come back after winning the Premier League, we have seen it with Man City," he reasoned.
