Mangaluru, Jan 24: Dr SD Sharanappa, district superintendent of police, inaugurated the floodlit chess tournament organized by Eden Aquatic and Sports Foundation here on Saturday, January 23.

After inaugurating the event, Sharanappa said, "The tournament will bring out children's talents. I am happy to see such events being organized in the city. I urge parents not to gift their children costly gadgets but provide the best education. Children should not only acquire knowledge from books but also actively take part in the co-curricular activities. Parents are the best judges for children and only they can bring out their hidden talent."

Addressing the gathered, Ivan Pinto, sports committee chairman of Eden Club, said, "Flood-lit chess competition is the first effort by the Eden Aquatic and Sports Foundation to bring out children's talents."

PD Kishore Pai, Dr N Sujir and Derick were present on the occasion.

As many as 175 participants took part in the chess tournament.

The competition was held under various categories. The winners were given medals and trophies.
