Spirit of patriotism has risen: Big B post India win over Pakistan

Kolkata, March 20 (IANS): Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was present at the Eden Gardens on Saturday to motivate the Indian cricket team for the crucial World Cup Twenty20 match against Pakistan, says the spirit of patriotism has climbed across an entire nation after the match.

He shared his feelings of exhilaration on his blog.

“The roar of victory, in battle in sport or in life, can possess your being in an almost ritualistic euphoric ecstasy,” he posted on early Sunday morning, right after the India mauled Pakistan over the Eden Gardens pitch.

“I am a frightened being tonight! For, I am possessed with the spirit of victory over an adversary that has rivaled us through many generations now, separated sadly by an invisible earth bearing line, drawn by aliens to the region, but responsible for it, or tasked for it, by the historical anomaly of colonialism,” he added.

Sharing that the World Cup has decorated the actor's days and nights for the past few days, Big B posted that the wait has finally ended with Eden Gardens witnessing a resounding win “over arch rivals Pakistan, and a possessed madness has erupted, to silence the sound of Earth's perpetual rotation, as it were, in its entirety”.

“The spirit of patriotism has climbed the barometer of an entire nation and suddenly nothing else in the world matters...nothing whatsoever,” the thespian wrote.

As the “Piku” actor sang the national anthem before the match commenced, he shared his emotions of feeling honoured and “privileged to have been given this opportunity to demonstrate my excessive joy on waving our National Flag to no end”.
