Mangalore, Oct 18: In yet another operation, the city Excise police have seized illegal arrack worth Rs 4 lac and arrested three persons at Nanthoor here on Thursday October 18.

Having received a sure tip-off, the police intercepted a Bolero vehicle at Nanthoor and arrested three persons who were transporting arrack in it illegally.  Altogether there were 3,000 arrack sachets in the car.  Police also stopped a TVS Victor bike and seized 75 sachets from the rider.

The arrested persons were identified as Bolero driver Prabhakar Shetty (47) a resident of Beeri, Dheeraj Shetty (23) and Vighnesh (27), residents of Talapady. The total worth of the seized arrack and vehicles is estimated at Rs 4 lac

Meanwhile the police sources said that the seized sachets do not contain contain 100 ml but contain only 80 ml.  Therefore, the illicit liquor dealers are cheating the cusotmers in quantity also.

Interestingly, Prabhakar Shetty works as driver of Bolero owned by a doctor.  Prabhakar, in order to earn extra bucks, agreed to supply illicit liquor in his vehicle. His greed for extra bucks has now landed him into trouble.

Dheeraj Shetty is running a petty shop at Talapady. Police sources state that he has already been booked for selling illicit liquor in his petty shop. The police have initiated probe to find out details about Vighnesh.

Production point:

Interestingly, the efforts of police to trace the manufacturing unit has not yielded any success, since the accused do not reveal any information, in this regard.

Excise commissioner N M Hussain, speaking to ‘www.daijiworld.com’ that all those involved in the distribution of illicit arrack never bulge any information of where the manufacturing unit is located.  They tell the suppliers to come to a specific point and handover the liquor. Hence, the secret of manufacturing unit remaines within themselves.

Successful story:

This is the third successful raid conducted by excise sub-inspector Vinod Kumar, after taking charge as sub-inspector of special squad, within few weeks.  He has booked 12 cases within four months of taking charge.

Recently he had seized illicit liquor and 2 cars at Valencia and illicit liquor sachets along with a car, at Kavoor.

Excise constables Jayappa Lamani, V Surendra, Sayyed Shabbeer, Shivaram and Chandrahasam, were involved on Thursday’s raid.
