Udupi: Samithi alleges Nagarjuna of Illegal use of Ground Water

Udupi, Oct 22: Jana Jagruthi Samithi, Nandikur has alleged that the Nagarjuna power project, promoted by Lanco at Yellur of illegally using ground water for construction purpose.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissionar, V Ponnuraj, the president of the Samithi, Balakrishna Shetty stressed; "the general public is the beneficiary of the natural resources including ground water."

He pointed out that the use of ground water or any other natural resources for commercial or individual benefits was prohibited.

But, Nagarjuna Power Company Ltd at their Yellur project site were pumping ground water with large number of bore wells for construction purpose. The illegal use of ground water in that manner would drastically reduce the drinking and irrigation water resources, he added.

In addition to that the ancient link road between Kukkikatte and Nandikur that was approved for development under PMGSY was now completely blocked.

And the lands individually contributed by the villagers for the road, four decades ago, was now being used for the sole use of the Company thereby violating the rights of the people, Shetty alleged.

    during construction of mangalore refinery many locals politicians protested and at the end of the day took money and left the help less on the street.Even in Nagarujuan case all are trying to get some pocket money and when lights go we start cursing the government.In my openion all politicians against power projects they fuses to be removed so thye can go back to the old lantern system.
