Bangalore: Atrocities against Christians Highest in State: Report

SAR News

Bangalore, Oct 23: Karnataka State has the worst record of atrocities against Christians recorded in the last 20 months, according to Global Council of Indian Christians, a human rights organisation based in Bangalore.

Karnataka, which witnessed 87 cases of attacks on Christians in 20 months, is only followed by Madhya Pradesh with 30 cases.

The council submitted a memorandum to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), seeking an independent inquiry into the incidents. It also linked the rise in atrocities in Karnataka to the rightwing Bharatiya Janata Party coming to power in the State.

"After the BJP came into the coalition, there has been a climate of impunity for any act of violence committed in the name of Hindutva," the memorandum stated.

Many of these attacks, GCIC claimed, "occurred inside homes where people come together for prayers, and in the churches".

GCIC has alleged that the police, in many cases, had refused to either file first information reports or pursue the matter with seriousness. In many instances, cases had been booked against the victims themselves. This had led to most cases remaining "invisible", the Council claimed.

GCCI has sought an investigation into the incidents by a specially empowered group in a speedy and time-bound manner.
SHRC chairperson S.R. Naik has sent copies of the memorandum to the chief secretary, Government of Karnataka, and directed him to submit his response within three weeks, after discussions with key officials of the State in charge of law and order.

GCIC president Sajan K. George said the organisation had recorded 464 cases of atrocities against Christians throughout India over 20 months and submitted a memorandum to the National Human Rights Council as well.

Communalism is a far more greater and dangerous evil than corruption. Some so called educated class have a prejudice towards the Congress party. But reading what has happened in the last 20 months can only indicate what would have been in store for the next 20 months. No matter what critics say, one should really applaud our former C.M. H.D.Kumaraswamy and his father the JD(s) supremo H.D.Deve Gowda even if they are branded as betrayers.

Those who have been betrayed by the father and son duo deserve so, as they themselves were the betrayers of the worst kind .They betrayed the Supreme Court, the national integration council, and the whole nation on 6th Dec.1992 which was a dark day for the country, just for grabbing power by crooked means. But they might succeed in fooling some people for some time. But surely not all the people all the time. Sooner than later the electorate is going to reject them as what happened in May 2004 and more recently in U.P.

Konkani and Marathi christians are one of the good, peace loving and mingaling people. I have lot of friends. They patiicpate in ganesh festival and i am participating in chrismas. For me and my friends each others friendship is more important than anything else. But recently foreign funded organisations have started the conversion campaingn. My sister is one of the victim. They belive in jehovah. Now she is not particpating in any of our festivals. She is in front us thrown out the nation flag (she dont beliéve in nation) and Gods ideal (she dont belive in ideal worship). If any christain, Muslim, Hindu comes our home she gives bible and tell them to come out of satan religion and follow their religion.  Tell me what will happen to our familly?

The sangh parivar has given us a sample of what is in store if they have full majority. We can tolerate the corrupt congressmen but not the Sangh parivar outfits.

This type of harashment is caused only because of these New Life chrisitin Members who were breaking apart from the catholic faith, and they moove towards the city villages and convince the people to join thier faith. But as for hindu or any other religion, chrisitians means Catholics or Protestants, since they have churches and other charitable institiutions which are visisble to the naked eye. This New Life chrisitian Memebrs do not have the church and they gather in Hall. If u see through out our country the catholic Property is bieng damaged by the unruly elements. We must Provide the Awareness of the Religion to the leaders of other Faith. We can not blame any Poltical Party. First we must Invite all the political leaders and religious leaders of all the faith and Inform about division of Chrstian Faith .

Some of the readers must be remembering that my reason of supporting Congress though some of their politicians are more corrupt than BJP politicians. Above incident is the reason. This is what happens if BJP comes to power. Evnthough they came to power with the mercy of JD(S) they have done so much, one can imagine what would be the result if they come to power on their own. Their policy is to divide India on the basis of religion and this could lead un-rest in whole of India. Therefore voters should be careful while voting, either they should vote for the unity of India or for the division. With regard to development of the nation, all the Governments are same.
