Beltangady, Oct 23: A complaint has been lodged at the police station here, by a Muslim woman, residing at Chilimbi, in the limits of Kuvettu village, near here alleging that her husband and in-laws were torturing her physically as well as mentally, in order to bring more dowry.

Naseema Banu (25), a resident of Chilimbi, in Kuvettu village was married to Tanweer, a resident of Chikmagalur, on January 28, 2007.  He was given 20 sovereign pounds and Rs 1 lac as dowry.  She was physically and mentally tortured by her husband, mother-in-law Asmat, Habibulla and Mohammed Rasool, with their demands to bring more dowry.

Despite several attempts were made to reconcile both Naseema and Tanveer since they wedded; her husband including in-laws continued to pester her with more dowry demands. Accordingly, Naseema lodged the complaint at the police station here, as she could no more bear the harassment.

    So annoying and disgusting to know about the dowry harrasment. This occur among all sects of the society. Unless the individual mindset changes no law can be of help and definitely such things will occur.
