Bengaluru, Jun 24: In the recent past, rumours are running thick and thin that Karnataka legislative chairman, D H Shankaramurthy, is slated to be made governor. There was also information that the ruling Congress was considering changing the chairman of the council.

Amidst these informations, Shankarmurthy on Thursday June 23, expressed confidence of continuing in his post for two more years, as JDS national president, H D Deve Gowda, has given his nod for the same.

Speaking to media persons after administering oath of office to re-elected MLC, V Somanna, he said that he had met Deve Gowda, a friend of 40 years, recently. "He sought the current strength of parties in the council, and blessed me with a smile to continue as chairman," he stated.

He explained that the total strength of JDS and BJP in the council stands at 38, and the Congress members will reach the figure of 36 even if the three nominated seats are filled. During the next two years, there will not be any change in this position. Therefore, changes can happen only if differences arise between BJP and JDS, he analyzed.
