M’lore: Rajapura Saraswat Bhasha Mahotsav to be Held

Mangalore, Feb 7: ‘Rajapura Saraswat Konkani Basha Mahotsav’ and 'Konknni Maan Monis – Ek Mulakat’ programmes will be held at Sri Laxmipura Sri Adhishakti Mahalaxmi Temple, Hirgana, in Karkala taluk, from 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday, February 10, organized by state Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Babanna K Wagle, managing trustee of Sri Laxmipura temple, will inaugurate the programme at 10 am on Sunday.

Gokuldas Nayak, commissioner of Udupi Urban Development Board, will be the chief guest of the occasion.  Sadanand Nayak, managing trustee of Sri Kavale Math, Goa will be the guest of honour.  Eric Ozario, president of Konkani Sahitya Academy will preside over the programme.

Live demonstration of various forms of Rajapura Saraswat Konkani traditions will be held from 11 am to 1 pm.  The demonstration will cover wedding ceremonies, wedding rhymes, lullaby, bhajans, poets’ meet and folk dances.  Yakshagana play, short play, Harikatha programmes will be held from 2 pm to 3 pm. 

‘Konknni Maan Monis – Ek Mulakat’ programme will be held during the concluding ceremony at 3 pm. Saralebettu Gopalakrishna Nayak, honorary editor of Saraswat Sandesh journal and Sadanand Bandodkar, the first Rajapura Konkani dramatist of Hirgana, will be felicitated on the occasion. 

N Upendra Prabhu, deputy general manager of Karnataka Bank, Ravindra Bhat, retired headmaster of Sri Bhuvanendra High School, Karkala, Salvador Fernandes, retired headmaster of St Mary’s High School, Udupi and Narayan Kharvi, Gurkar of Kharvi community, will be the chief guests. The concluding programme will be presided over by Academy president Eric Ozario. 

 Academy office bearers including registrar have urged Konkani lovers to attend the programme in large numbers.
