Mangalore: Closure of Level-crossing Puts Traffic in Jeopardy

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (KD)

Mangalore, Feb 8: Owing to the closure of level-crossing at Pandeshwar by the railways commuters were to put to hardship here on Thursday February 7.

According to the sources it is said that the railway officials initially claimed that the level-crossing would be closed only for a few hours but it was extended till evening. This caused a lot of incovenience to the people especially office-goers who could not reach their destinations on time. Distressed people complained that the officials could have put signboards at the junctions that the level-crossing had been closed.

However, the railway officials said that the level crossing was aimed at enhancing the safety of the people by installing a lock on the gate. As there was no locking system, vehicles could pass through the sides of the gate when it was closed. The railway regulations have made it mandatory that the gates at the level-crossing should be locked, the officials said.
