Udupi, Feb 8: The division of the 19 km railway line around the city in to Southern Railway, Northern Railway, Eastern Railway and Konkan Railway has caused much confusion in the minds of people, said advisor to the Railway Yathri Sangha R L Dias.

Speaking to press persons here on Thursday February 7, Dias urged railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav to include the Talapady-Tokur railway line including Panambur yard under Konkan Railway.

He further said that it was a wrong to consider that the entire 1,185 km of Kurla-Mangalore railway stretch comes under Konkan Railway and that its income also is used by it. The reality is that Konkan Railway's income comes from the 1,059 km stretch between Roha and Tokur only, he added.

He also demanded the Mangalore-Bangalore train services to be extended till Karwar in order to fulfil the needs of the people of Udupi, Kundapur, Karwar and Bhatkal.

Dias placed various other demands including commencement of Hassan-Mangalore train, grant of recognition to  the Sangha, installlation of coin booths at railway stations to allot platform tickets, special seasonal trains between Mumbai-Mangalore, pay booth for taxis and autorickshaws at Udupi railway station and others.
