Mangalore, Feb 11: A four-day public awareness programme on 'Atom for Peace' will be organized by the department of civil engineering, NITK, Suratkal near here from Monday February 11.

A press release stated that the programme will focus on the advantages of nuclear energy and safety norms.

The release stated that the conventional sources of energy are becoming scarce at a fast pace and therefore it is essential to find alternate sources of energy. The release also stated that nuclear energy is environmental friendly as well as safe. The country has enough potential and technical competence to make use of nuclear energy.

Seminars, video presentations and exhibitions in Kannada and English will be held as part of the programme. IARP and NPCIL officials C Abani, A H Khan, Suresh Rao and P M Ravi will be the resource persons.

The lectures will be held at NITK on Tuesday February 12 while on Wednesday February 13 the lectures will be at Govindasa College, Suratkal, Sharada Vidyalaya, Kodialbail, KPT and KMC here.

On Thursday February 14, the lectures will be organized at Fr Muller Medical College and Government Pre-University College, Kavoor here. The four-day programme will be open to general public, stated the release.
