Udupi: Alevoor Group Award 2008 Conferred on Dr Mohan Alva

Udupi, Feb 11: The Alevoor Group Award 2008 was presented to Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva at function organized here on Sunday February 10.

Delivering his acceptance speech after receiving the award, Dr Alva spoke on the topic of discipline and value based education and declared that for a child to bloom into a disciplined and well-rounded personality it was crucial to have an appropriate and value-based primary education, thus giving the child a strong educational base.  

Further, Dr Alva opined that primary education is the base which should be deeply rooted followed by a discipline in high school education which he felt will enable the child to have a well characterised adulthood. He pointed out that even though English language plays an important role in this era of globalisation, mother tongue should not be ignored, especially Kannada.
 
On the topic of parental pressure on children with regard to their education, Dr Mohan Alva advised parents not to unnecessarily pressurise children against their wishes and also said that common entrance examinations should not be the only criteria to evaluate the intelligence of a student.
 
Also present on the occasion were famous scholar and theatre personality Prof U Madhav Achar, Udupi block development officer D Manjunathaiah, president of Alevoor Group for Education Alevoor Ganapathy Kini.
