Mangalore, Mar 14: Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd, an ONGC Group company under its CSR initiative Samrakshan has once again to made a positive difference in the lives of young ones of Pragathi Nagar, Madhya village, several students of 53 government schools around the refinery and 16 schools at Sarpady, and the doctors and patients of government hospital of Bantwal, all in a week.

 “These initiatives carried out last week like the constructing and handing over an anganwadi building, donating scientific teaching aids, providing infrastructural facilities including cupboards to schools and a heavy duty generator set to the local hospital, are all part of Samrakshan and are continuing activities that live out our commitment to the deserving people and causes in DK”, said R Rajamani, managing director, MRPL.

In July 2007, S S Hegde, senior GM (HR) from MRPL had laid the foundation stone for a much-needed anganwadi at Pragathi Nagara, Madhya village. In less than an year, at a simple ceremony held on Thursday March 13, the  anganwadi building has been constructed by MRPL and handed over by S S Hedge himself to the inhabitants of Pragathi Nagara in the presence of S K Kadri, DGM (HR), MRPL, Vajrakshi Shetty, member of the taluk panchayat, Annappa, Chelaieru panchyat president, Shobha, Sspervisor, Mangalore taluk rural anganwadies, Pushparaj Shetty vice-president Chelaieru panchayat, Balakrishna, president Pragathi Nagar Development Samithi,   Dinesh president SKDRDP Madhya Federation, anganwadi teacher, residents, parents and around 20 tiny tots who will be the beneficiaries of the anganwadi.

This function was preceded the previous day by another simple function in the in-patient section of government hospital Bantwal where  S K Kadri,  MRPL,  handed over a DG set 45 KVA and 36 KW Air Cooled Kirloskar Diesel Generator to the district health officer D. Jagannath and   Dr Sudarshan Nayak,   medical officer, government hospital, Bantwal.

Also 53 government schools around the MRPL Refinery and 16 Schools in Sarpady were gifted with modern scientific teaching aids like Unilab/Olympus microscope, human evolution chart, physiological system models, mathematical kit etc, for the high school students. These schools and a few more were also provided with steel cupboards and bookshelves as requested by them.

 “These exercises cost MRPL around Rs 21 lac.  But the value delivered to the community is much more,” says S K Kadri, DGM (HR), MRPL who steers Samrakshan.

It may be recalled that just recently MRPL had donated much-needed modern, cutting-edge equipment worth around Rs12, 00,000 to Lady Goschen Hospital in the city.
