Coast Guard evacuates injured Chinese from motor tanker off Mangaluru coast

Mangaluru, May 17 (PTI): A 31-year-old Chinese crew member with injuries on his right hand has been evacuated from Motor Tanker (MT) Sea Dragon by an Indian Coast Guard Ship, 25 km off Mangaluru coast.

Sea Dragon, a Liberia-registered 230-metre long LPG carrier, was cruising from Singapore to Fujairah, UAE, yesterday when it reported that boilerman, Hong Jiangyu had suffered an injury on the index finger of his right hand and needed immediate evacuation.

On receiving the information, Coast Guard Karnataka Headquarters at Mangaluru diverted ICGS 'Savitribai Phule', to render assistance, a Coast Guard release said.

The ship, commanded by Commandant Manish Kumar, dispatched its medical team which found that Hong had a serious injury on the index finger of his right hand.

After providing first aid, he was shifted to the coast guard vessel safely, the release said.

The Coast Guard ship returned to New Mangalore harbour with the injured crew member for rendering further medical assistance to him.

Expressing satisfaction over the swift medical evacuation, Deputy Inspector General S S Dasila, Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka, said every life was precious and all efforts would be made to safeguard life and property at sea.

The sailor had fractured his finger only. But it must have been painful. Good Job anyway.

The Coast Guard should have an aircraft and helicopter stationed at Mangalore. If not it has to come from Kochi or Goa in an emergency.

So nice to hear this humanitarian assistance to a foreign national. I only wish our police and administrators provide similar assistance to people injured on the road by accident or injured by lawless people (like poor people being beaten up in the name of protecting animals, young girls being raped). Like the Coast Guard, our on-shore law keepers must come forward to help the helpless rather than being mute spectators.

please also let us know what police should do during stone pelting, attack on police by cow thieves team, & during cow theft. apart from this what is the role of public during the accident? is it only capturing the video & sharing through whatsapp/facebook or they should help. giving advise is very easy & all are ready to do that but following the word is difficult.
