Kundapur: Woman assaulted over trivial issue, family alleges caste bias

Kundapur, May 20: A woman was allegedly assaulted by her neighbours on May 16 over a trivial issue. The incident came to light with delay as the victim alleged that the police refused to register a complaint of the assault till Saturday May 20.

Anitha, a resident of Kambadakone here has been admitted to hospital, but as alleged, only after another hospital drove her away.

On May 16, her husband Jagannath who is a mason had gone to work at Arehole. In the meantime, Subbu, their neighbour and his family members alleged that a hen belonging to Anitha had entered their house at about 1.30 pm. As a quarrel ensued, Subbu, his children Ganesh, Girija and Gauri allegedly dragged Anitha out and assaulted her.

Anitha who was injured, went to Byndoor government hospital, but the doctors allegedly refused to admit her, and she was asked to go to Kirimanjeshwar for treatment. Later Anitha and her husband Jagannath went to Byndoor police station to lodge a complaint but the police allegedly hurled expletives at them and refused to register a case.

The doctors in the Kundapur government hospital refused to admit Anitha as inpatient on Wednesday also. However, she was treated in the hospital on Saturday as she complained of severe pain.

Her family members alleged as Anitha belongs to scheduled caste, she was meted out injustice at the hands of her neighbours, police and doctors.
