Mysuru, Jul 3: Two youngsters fell in love with each other and then got married, apparently ignorant of the rule relating to marriageable age. The police caught up with the couple two months after their marriage. While the girl has been rescued, theboy has been given to the care of Juvenile Justice Board.

The incident happened at Kuri Mandi within the limits of N R police station in the city. A 17-year-old boy who is engaged in selling dolls near the palace here was in love with a 16-year-old girl living in the same area. Both their parents came to know about their feelings, and advised them against going ahead with their marriage plans at this young age. But the girl who has lost her mother and hence is under the care of her aunt, insisted on marriage.

Under pressure from her, the boy married her in a temple, and took the girl home. She turned pregnant after two months. The teachers, who observed that the girl was frequently absenting from school, made enquiries and found out about her marriage. They conveyed information to Child Helpline. Police personnel then visited the house of the minors, rescued the girl, and filed case against the young man in N R police station. The boy has been entrusted to Juvenile Justice Board.

In another cas e, the officials of Child Helpline rushed to a marriage hall at Shantinagar here on Sunday July 2 morning and stopped the marriage of a girl who was short of attaining 18 years of age by two days, with a boy of 23 years. Police from Udayagiri station accompanied the personnel to the hall and helped them to stop the marriage rituals from proceeding.
