Kundapur: Five thieves relating to 2013 incident sentenced to 8 years imprisonment

Kundapur, Jul 8: Five convicts related to the Kolluru incident of 2013 were sentenced to eight years of imprisonment by the additional district and sessions court here, on Friday, July 7.

The thieves were pronounced guilty on Thursday, July 6.

The court after a four-year long investigation declared the suspects guilty.

Justice Prakash Khanderi sentenced the convicts to eight years imprisonment and asked for the period spent by them in jail to be deducted from the sentence. Government public prosecutor Harischandra Udyavar presented the case of complainant Shamkumar.

2013 Incident

Asianet cameraman Shamkumar K, his family, his colleague and his family were on their way to Kollur Mookambika temple from Guruvayoor, in a Santro car, late at night on December 15. Suspects Faizal(24) a resident of Moodushedde, Mohammed Rizwan(28), Mohammed Ali(25), Saifuddin(23) and Harshit Shetty(25) a resident of Kulshekar, followed them from Mangaluru in their Swift car. As the two cars reached Idooru Kunjali Jansali, a place close to Kollur, the Swift intercepted the Santro. The occupants of the former attacked those the latter with metal rod and machetes.

Shamkumar who was driving Santro car, without getting perturbed, increased the speed and drove away. He then filed a complaint about the incident at the Kollur police station. The police swung into action chased the suspects. To the suspects' misfortune, their car toppled at Chittur junction and those in it were trapped and arrested.
