Bengaluru, Jul 18: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights intervened in a case in which a special public prosecutor handling a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case was extracting money from the parents of the victim and ensured that the pubic prosecutor was removed from the post.

In this case, a small child had undergone sexual atrocity at the hands of its own close relative. The parents, who came to know of it later, had filed police complaint. The police had arrested the accused, who has now been trying to secure bail. Parents of the girl had made all out efforts to see that the accused does not get bail.

The parents, who were apprehensive that the accused, if he gets bail, will make sure that the investigation in the case will go astray, had approached the special public prosecutor with request to see that bail is not granted as prayed. The public prosecutor began demanding money from the parents during each of the hearings, and the parents, finding no other alternative, were obliging.

When the public prosecutor's harassment became too much, the parents recorded the demand made by him for money on video and sought justice from various sources. As their efforts failed everywhere, finally they approached the said commission for help.

Chairperson of the commission, Kripa Amar Alva, noted that the family of the harassed person which is already distraught at the incident, should not have been pressurized for money. She said that the commission took the issue seriously, duly treating this as demand for bribe, it ensured that the special public prosecutor was removed from his post. The special public prosecutor in question, Narasappa, has been removed considering the complaint made by the commission and also proof provided.
