Udupi, Apr 30: One daylong camp on pottery was held at Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal, on Tuesday April 29, by the sand sculptors/artists, organized by Manipal University.

The pottery camp was inaugurated by Dr Pawan Kumar, head of department of community medicine, KMC.  In his address to the camp participants, he has urged them to plant as many plants as they can, in order to encourage everyone to join in the effort of afforestation.  T Ranga Pai, vice chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was also present.  Sand artists Srinath Manipal and Venky Palimar, offered training to hundreds of students who attended the pottery camp.

Pottery artifacts convey the message to conserve environment:    

A boy tries to save a half axed tree while his support envisages the tree to get a new lease of life by off shoots from below the axed part of tree.  Wild creatures including birds who made the tree as their abode were devastated owing to axing the tree, to find alternate nesting places.  It was indeed successful in conveying the massage to conserve the environment as a prime objective for the mankind. 

Dr Prasanna Mitra of community medicine compered the programme, emphasizing creating awareness on improving the eco-environment in the neighbourhood by possible ways.
