MAC celebrates its 6th Annual Family Social

Media Release

Canada, May 13: The sixth family social hosted by the Mangalorean Association of Canada was held on May 10, 2008 at Christ the King Hall, Mississauga.  It was an exceptional accomplishment with a fusion of activities, music and games for the young and old.  To the pulsating music of Reggae, Hip Hop and the melodious strains of the waltz and jive, 300 people danced and celebrated a fantastic evening.    The band and DJ, Casual Encounter led by the extremely talented Joyson D’Souza made the event memorable with their fantastic music and singing.  The family social provided the guests an opportunity to mingle with family and friends and indulge in pure pleasure and a stress-free evening.

The guests were warmly greeted by enthusiastic youth volunteers and members of the association.   A welcome speech by the emcee, Ivan D’Lima set the tone for the evening.  A brief dance session had everyone swaying and dancing abandoning all inhibitions. Grace was led by Sr. Ferdinanda who thanked God for showering his blessings and encouraged the association to continue their contributions to the community     Dinner, catered by Loy D’Souza of Konkan Delite, was a spectacular buffet of salads, vegetables, meat and dessert created to please all kinds of palates and fussy eaters.

After all the guests were satiated, the President of MAC, Maxim D’Mello thanked everyone for their wholehearted participation, especially the generosity and support demonstrated by the sponsors.  He summarized the triumphs of the association, future events and highlighted the tremendous loss suffered by MAC in the death of a much loved and respected Executive Council member, Herbert Lobo.  Herbert was remembered for his passion and dedication, commitment and honour not only to the association but also to his family, friends and community.  A one minute silence was observed in his memory.

A Vote of Thanks was proposed by the General Secretary, Janet D’Souza who appreciated the encouragement and collaboration of everyone who worked towards ensuring the success of the event.  The emcee invited Francis Rodrigues, GNAT President to speak about the 2008 International Goan Convention to be held in Mississauga.  MAC is proud to be a part of the organizing committee for the Thiatro, a traditional Konkani concert.

The attractive door prizes and abundant raffle prizes entranced and allured the guests who rushed in a frenzy to buy tickets.  The lucky winners went back satisfied and thrilled to be the recipients of gifts such as a Patio Heater, Blue Jay tickets, Wine rack with vase and many more.  An array of midnight snacks was served followed by non-stop dancing.

MAC expresses its gratitude to the selfless generosity of the sponsors and well wishers, to the guests who attended the Family Social and ensured its overwhelming success.  MAC acknowledges and applauds the support, commitment and dedication of all its members and volunteers who worked hard to organize an event of this magnitude.
