Nandan Nilekani, wife Rohini join charity network, donate half of their $1.7 bn wealth

Bengaluru, Nov 20 (PTI): Infosys co-founder and tech billionaire Nandan Nilekani and his wife Rohini Nilekani have joined ‘The Giving Pledge’, an elite network of the world’s wealthiest individuals committing half their wealth to philanthropy.

The Giving Pledge website uploaded Nilekanis’ letter signing up for the cause.

The letter said, “We thank Bill and Melinda for creating this unique opportunity to realise a moral aspiration inspired by the Bhagwad Gita – ‘Karmanye Va dhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma karma phalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani’.”

“We have a right to do our duty, but no automatic right to the fruits from the doing. It is critical that we do not slip into inaction fearing that we may not be able to reap direct reward. It is to this ideal that we pledge,” it added.

Later Bill Gates tweeted on his handle about Nilekanis’ pledge on his twitter handle on Monday.

“I’m amazed by how @NandanNilekani has lent his entrepreneurial passion to philanthropy. I’m delighted to welcome him and his wife Rohini to the Giving Pledge,” Gates tweeted.

A Forbes report pegged the Nilekanis’ wealth at $1.7 billion.

The Giving Pledge was created by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett in August 2010 following a series of conversations with philanthropists around the world about how they could collectively set a new standard of generosity among the ultra-wealthy.

Gem of a person in real life.

He is a well educated, hard working brainy guy. Came up in life with his professional capability, honesty & gods blessings. Soft spoken & unbiased. Always stood for the principles he believed.

What a noble gesture sharing one's own wealth for the needy. God bless him & his family.

    Big hats off!
It's true wisdom, their works, investments have rewarded them many folds.
Yet no ego could enter into their soul. When Nilekani's amazed so much of wealth, their noble heart cries for those starving, under privileged and they are doing whatever is within their reach to help those under privileged!
In this universe, under privileged will always be there and few wealthy, for God want to test to who he has blessed!
Nilekani's have passed both the tests!

In Canada, you go to any library, you can use the computer with internet free, courtesy, Bill and Melinda Foundation. A glamourous actress in her twilight years, asked Mother Theresa to allow her to work as volunteer and Mother Theresa told her to clean toilets first and she did it willingly. I and you are average persons and we may not have that grace to clean wounds of lepers, feed and do other work of mentally retarded people and to change the diapers of children and elderly. But, there are enough volunteers filled with God's grace to do it.

God is very generous to many of us and at least let us be generous towards God's creations by helping monetarily. I am told by a Mother Superior at an ashram that donating a part of your hard earned money also is a great sacrifice and liked by God. Mr. Nelekani and his wife donating half of their fortune, are really wonderful human beings.

How did these people became so wealthy???????????????????????????????????
From where did they got such wealth??????????????????????
He is co founder of a firm, just imagine how much they might have charged for their customers (Public) & looted their money???
Businessmen = Loot the public by overcharging for the product they make & become wealthy.
Conclusion : Every businessmen are corrupt, otherwise they can't become wealthy. Only corrupts can become wealthy.

A very good geste from the Nilekani family.Hope it comes to the right people.Other side when you consider these people can donate from their numorous amount.whereas other person wants to donate a small amount also comes the same effect.Only the will is necessary.we know the story from Bible, richone drops his coin in a donation box with a big noice ,so that everyone hears.A poor man puts his cent in box slowly so that noone hears. Hope many of our bigones follow this couple.Insteadof spending so mnay millions on daughters or sons marraige.

The worship of wealth is the worst idol worship, but when we give away our wealthy for any noble cause to help the downtrodden and hungry humanity, that is the real worship of GOD.

Let the billionaires and millionaires if India may get some dose of empathy towards the suffering people across them instead of huge mansions and display of wealth; because the brevity of life is too fast running. At the deathbed, what we have done to the poor will be the only vision of peace and joy before leaving the world to eternity.

Why earn that much money if you are giving it away. Why not give raises to Infosys Coolies working abroad. These are the modern day slave masters. Cheap labor from India helped them build their wealth. Now they act like they are being generous.

Most of these foundations are means for them to travel around the world,

There was a joke that when 500 and 1000 rupee notes died (demonetized) they stood at the pearly gate and St Peter did not allow them to enter heaven, because they were never seen in church collection boxes. Although, there are many rich people, to donate something, their hands are not co-operating and holding on their wealth in the fist.

However, there are living saints, like people shown above, who donate fortunes for the poor and definitely, God will shower them with blessings. Mr. Nilekani, you helped the govt with Aadhaar and now you will be Aadhaar to many poor people.
