Bantwal, Nov 26: A woman manhandled a man by grabbing his collar when he refused to vacate the seat reserved for ladies in the bus.

The incident happened near Thumbay on Saturday, November 25 in a KSRTC bus.

The bus was moving towards Mangaluru with full of passengers at around 9 am. A woman passenger found a man seated on a seat reserved for women. She asked him politely to vacate the seat. But the man refused. To make the matter worse, another man was heard telling this man not to leave the seat. This angered the woman and she suddenly grabbed the man by collar and pulled his bag.

The man, who was frightened by the sudden ‘assault’ by the woman, vacated the seat and stood at a ‘safer’ place away from the woman. Fellow passengers said there was no argument after the incident as the woman’s action put a full stop to the problem.

The argument which started at Kempugudde bus stop near Bantwal Bypass Road ended in Thumbay,

A passenger secretly recorded the incident and circulated it in WhatsApp which went viral subsequently.

People have praised the woman for her courage.

If this lady requested politely, I don't think the guy would have refused. She must have started with a rude behaviour. Else, why the man was being supported and not the lady? Non of the ladies over there supported her either. She could have called the conductor and explained the situation. Instead, she chose to do rowdyism, manhandle the guy and create ruckus.

We don't have a problem with women. We have a problem when women who demand that they need to be treated equally, and then ask for special privileges.

I understand why there are seats allocated for disabled and elderly... but why there should be seats designated for women?

I agree that the guy is in wrong over here on the basis of the stupid rule. But that does not give the right to the lady to assault the man.

well this was a brave act of fighting for your seats... which is reserved for ladies back of driver.... its obligated for them... n no male passenger is allowed to seat... my question what about two seats while entering in front door in bus reserved for aged n for physical people... no body is bothered to give that seat which is allowed for senior citizen n physical challenge people .... i find young male n female occupying seats which is reserved for senior n physically challenge people without any concern they just go blind when they notice this people... most heroic conductors to show them showoff they will scream on male passenger if he is occupying seat which is reserved for ladies... but no action....on this....

In our undivided DK district, women don't take sides of distressed woman. In the video it is clearly visible.other women are are silent.

Taking the wrong advantage of being women. Such a bad manners while demanding for her "RIGHT"!!! it's good to have reserved seats for ladies as far as in a country like India where public transports are always crowded. Indeed the guy should have cleared it when ladies had to stand there. But the woman's behaviour in a public transport terribly shameful and condemnable.
Few cases, like I've witnessed ladies ignoring the pregnant woman, ladies with small children and even senior citizens while seated, but men mostly extend their respect towards them.

When a seat is empty in ladies row i had seen ladies not occupy that seat instead they go & sit in some other place . This is not right. Then men have no option they have to go for ladies seat. So there should be clear instruction that no ladies should occupy other seat when ladies seat is vacant . Then this problem won't arise. Now in today's world both ladies & gents are equal.

Many people feel what that woman did was right. No doubt the man is wrong. He should've vacated his seat immediately. But imagine yourself in his place, and the woman grabbing your collar in front of public. The shame. The loss of your respect.
The woman's approach is definitely wrong in my opinion.
Imagine if it was the other way round. Would the people support the man? Would it be a rights issue instead of physical assault ??
I guess grabbing a man's collar is today's women empowerment. :(

I agree that the boy had committed a mistake by sitting in ladies seat, but that women cannot be excused, she has committed an equal mistake. Just see the way the women is talking, the way she is behaving. She is misusing her rights. Just imagine what would have happened if the boy had strictly or harshly opposed when she caught his collor or when she tried to sit forcefully over him. There is manner for everything. The lady should be guilty for her behavior.

That lady took too much advantage of her rights about ladies seats in the bus. If that male passenger refused to vacate the seat meant for ladies. she had no right to take the laws into her hands. She should have informed the conductor of the bus who could have handled the situation. In New York, there are no separate seats for ladies in buses. They have seats in the front row near the entrance for disabled passengers both for men and ladies. Also, there is no ladies compartment in any trains and no FIRST CLASS compartments. All are equal while traveling in public transportations.

This is the duty of conductor of a bus. Since he was unable to discharge his duty, the lady did the right thing. I appreciate the lady. The bus conductor should advise the ladies to occupy ladies seats first , and then to other seats. I have seen ladies occupy other seats and men are standing even though ladies seats are empty in the bus. People also keep bag and towel from window on the seats before entering the bus and reserve the seats. AWAITING ACCHE DIN.

It is already stated that the video has gone viral in social network. If any anyone watches the live video, can make few observations ....
First of all it is mistake of the young guy who was seated in the ladies reserved seat.
But the way the lady Rambo reacted was totally questionable. That kind of arrogance was not required in this situation.
The guy also asked her to talk politely when she was holding his color and shouting at him.
Only the bus conductor or Bus authorities has the right to take the passenger on task in such situation. Not the passenger herself.
The lady reacted with un due advantage of being a lady and the guy was in the wrong spot.
In public places and transport systems, though there is reservation factor we, the general public must behave ourselves, respect each others rather than overriding on others. This is not fair to either sides.

1. There is a fine on the bus, if any 'Male' passenger is found sitting in the ladies seat. First of all this fine has to be imposed.

1.Concept of equality" doesn't apply to such obvious physical situations; it applies to the mental agility,Men are taller, stronger and have a longer reach, than women. How could we otherwise be equal?Women do not claim physical equality.
2. Seats on buses are not reserved for women, but for people more likely to have trouble standing up. This refers to women much more often than it does to men.
3.Women are carrying babies (inside or out of their bodies) much more often than men.
4. Without reservation 80% of the time no woman in our society will get a seat and its natural that men would just occupy the seats and not bother in most cases to accommodate women.
5.Reservation seats are to create a safe zone for women in a place where they are prone to be assaulted otherwise.
6.The best way for a women to protect herself physically on public transportation is to be sitting, with her back against a wall and the ability to look around her.
Like this there are long list my friend ,Understand what equality is. Read about it and educate yourself. Be compassionate and understand .

I am senior citizen..... I traveled in buses in Udupi and Mangalore..... It is courtesy to offer a seat to Ladies, handicapped or old people..... But I have seen most of the ladies sit on gents seats and never offer seat to any handicapped or old people...... Ladies seat means they are reserved and meant for may be aged or young ladies. It is a n Act of courtesy to leave the seat for ladies. RTO has done this rule reserving seats for senior citizens and women. Such issues and complaints often raised in Police Phone in programme. But outcome is nil. So traffic police or the RTO should attend such cases and bring a system to this. Mere indicating ladies seats, senior citizens seats doesnt serve any purpose. Atleast the conductor has to take some initiative in such cases.

In Mumbai, in the bus I was travelling, an elderly couple boarded the bus. Woman sat in ladies seat, but there was no seat for man, since senior citizen seat was occupied by a young man, This elderly man asked him to vacate, but he did not. Then his wife told him to sit in one of the empty ladies seats and he sat Afterwards, some ladies boarded the bus and requested the man to vacate. His wife told him, not to vacate, because people are not following rules. Finally, matter went to conductor and the wife argued in such a way, conductor said "really every husband should get a wife like you" and settled the matter.
