Udupi, Dec 9: “State government’s scheme ‘Mathru Poorna’ is quite impractical. Women are not showing much interest in this benefit. Moreover, it is a burden on Asha workers. The people themselves are commenting about its impractical aspects. People of the southern district especially, do not like to bring prepared food from other’s home. They do not feel comfortable to have it. In spite of many problems, they would like to cook at their own homes. This is their mentality and one should respect it,” said Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje at Disha meeting held on Friday, December 8 at V S Acharya meeting hall, Zilla Panchayat Manipal here.

Gracy Gonsalves, deputy director, WEWD Udupi said, “There are 7,500 pregnant and lactating women in the district. 890 pregnant women and 678 lactating women benefited from this scheme last month. Altogether, 1642 pregnant women and 1393 lactating women get benefit under this scheme.”

“Earlier, 11,000 beneficiaries were benefiting from Madilu scheme, but the number has reduced drastically,” said Gracy.

According to DHO Rohini said, “Over Rs 39, 48,000 have been distributed to 4,261 beneficiaries under Janani Suraksha Yojana from April to October 2017. Over 451 women have got Madilu kit. Over Rs 48,06,091 amount was distributed to 2892 beneficiaries under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakrama. Approximately Rs 95,49,378 was distributed to them. Nearly 10,542 members used 108 Arogya Kavacha Ambulance facility from April to October.”

During the meeting, MP Shobha questioned the execution of cashless transaction in the district. Replying to her, lead bank manager, Francis Borgia said, “Nine banks have adopted 10 villages to develop cashless villages. A new application has been prepared to execute cashless-digital business in these villages.”

He further assured that by the end of December 20, these villages will become cashless.

DPR of Rs 110 crore and 100 crore has been made to construct Malpe-Parkala road under CRF fund and Thirthahalli – Kamaralli road.

During the meeting, taluk panchayat president Nalini Pradeep said, “A board should be made to keep the project details and contractor’s name should be put on the road during Guddali puja wherever the road construction work takes place under Central Road Fund.”

MP Shobha took NHAI project director Samson Vijaykumar to task for the slow pace of construction work. She also blamed him that he was trying to escape the meeting every time.

Reacting to the MP, Samson said, “There is financial crisis for the construction work. We have completed 80 km long national highway out of 90 km. We have also completed 28 km of service road out of 40 km. March 2018 is the deadline for completing the national highway work.”

“Over 13,626 families do not have sites in the district when taking the figures of housing scheme’s target and selection in the year 2017-18. The total target for Basava Vasti Yojana is 6,290 and the selected applications are 3,786. The total target under Ambedkar project 1,620 but the selected families are 223. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the given target is 33 and selected applications are 223 from three taluks.”
