Mangaluru, Dec 10: During the health check up camp organized for the inmates of the district prison here on Saturday December 9, it came to light that as many a 98 prisoners were suffering from skin-related ailments. Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil, taking serious view of this situation, released a sum of five lac rupees for undertaking repairs to the drinking water tank of the prison and to provide clean water to the inmates.

The camp meant for the under-trials was organized under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada district committee of Karnataka Journalists Union with the participation of KMC Hospital and A J Dental College. Deputy commissioner of police, Hanumantharaya, was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the health cap.

Deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, visited the prison during the health checkup camp. He was taken aback on coming to know that skin disorder had been found in many of the prison inmates. He discussed the issue with the prison officials. He was informed that the water supplied by the city corporation is being used by the prison.

Understanding the possibility of dirt having been accumulated in the water tank and water pipes, which in turn would have caused the skin problems, the deputy commissioner released five lac rupees on the spot for undertaking cleaning work, and instructed the officials to ensure that clean water is provided to the people lodged inside the prison.
