Mangaluru, Oct 9: St Agnes School CBSE celebrated its much-awaited annual sports meet on 8 October 2026 at the St Agnes Campus Grounds with immense enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
The inaugural ceremony began with the guard of honour and the arrival of the dignitaries, led by the chief guest, Dr Ramesha H N, assistant director of Physical Education at Mangalore University. The school was honoured by the presence of Sr Dr Vinora AC, superior of St Agnes Institutions and president of the programme, Sr Jenifer Moras AC, principal, Sr Meena Fernandes AC, vice principal, Sr Letitia AC, kindergarten coordinator, Sr Lavi Shanthi AC, coordinator and Pradeep Misquith, PTA vice president. The dignitaries were welcomed as they proceeded to the dais, accompanied by the school band, while head girl Nishka Bangera and assistant head girl Reishan Maria Fernandes led the procession. Adding to the occasion, Krithi S Aithal, national-level skating championship achiever from St Agnes, along with her proud parents, also joined the procession with the dignitaries..









































































































































The much-awaited march past by Grades VI–X followed, with the ceremonial flag carried by Anvitha A, sports minister (Grade X D); Adwika K P, deputy sports minister (Grade IX D); and sports achievers, Abigail D’Souza (Grade X D) and Rishika Bangera (Grade VIII D). The Agnesian contingents marched in perfect formation to the rhythm of the School Band and saluted the dignitaries, with the chief guest receiving the salute. Tr Vindhya and Tr Josephine provided the commentary, while the distinguished march past judges, Vinutha Praveen and Narayana S, observed the impressive display.
The school flag was ceremonially hoisted, followed by the inspection of teams, with Tr Devika, physical education teacher, accompanying the chief guest and dignitaries. The school choir then led the gathering in prayer, and the ceremony continued with a vibrant welcome dance. Sr Jenifer Moras AC. warmly welcomed the dignitaries, sisters, PTEC members, parents and students, and introduced the chief guest, Dr Ramesha H N, assistant director of physical education at Mangalore University. A PhD holder who secured first rank in BPEd and MPEd, he is a hockey coach, multi-sport official and Karate black belt holder. The dignitaries were presented with potted plants as a gesture of welcome.
Krithi S Aithal of Grade V C was felicitated for her outstanding achievement in skating, winning Gold in the 500m Rink Race and Bronze in the One Lap Road Race at the CBSE South Zone II Skating Competition. She qualified for the national championship for the fourth consecutive year, bringing pride to St Agnes School CBSE.
A highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the torch relay, in which the torch of glory was carried by five young sportspersons: Krithi S Aithal (Grade IV), Angel Binoy (Grade VII B), Aadhya K (Grade IX), Thasvi S K (Grade IX), and Adithi K P (Grade VII). Representing determination, discipline, team spirit, perseverance, victory and hope, the torchbearers, led by Adithi, approached the chief guest to ignite the cauldron, symbolising peace, unity and harmony.
The athletes then took the sports oath, pledging to uphold fair play, honesty, respect and responsibility. The symbolic inauguration followed, after which Sr Dr Vinora AC officially declared the annual sports meet open. The chief guest in his message emphasised that education and sports should go hand in hand, encouraging students to pursue sports throughout life and reminding them that participation and perseverance are more important than winning alone. Adding vibrancy to the celebration was the drill display by students of Grades I to V, whose rhythmic, precise and well-coordinated movements showcased discipline, teamwork and confidence. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Tr Neesha.
The valedictory ceremony began with the ceremonial reception of the chief guest, Sr Judith Frank AC, superior of Yesu Prem Nikethan Convent and lecturer at St Agnes PU College, who was escorted to the dais by principal Sr Jenifer Moras AC, vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes AC, and PTA vice president Pradeep Misquith, accompanied by the school band. The jumbled march brought vibrant formations and spirited movement to the evening, followed by a soulful prayer song. Sr Meena Fernandes AC delivered the welcome address, after which the dignitaries were presented with potted plants as a gesture of warmth and appreciation. The chief guest in her message highlighted that sports promote physical and mental well-being, discipline and character. She congratulated the winners and participants, appreciating their hard work, determination and perseverance.
Prize distribution ceremony honoured the champions of the Annual Sports Meet 2026, recognising their outstanding achievements in team events, march past, and the individual and overall championship for grade VI- X. The winners were Stephana Fabiola D’Souza and Mazin Abdulla (VI B), Adithi K P (VII A), Pristin Crasta (VII D), Preetham D’Souza (VIII A), Marvel Maryan Crasta (VIII D), Tasvi S K (IX A), and Nishka Jayraj Bangera (X A). The awards were presented by the chief guest, Sr Judith Frank AC, in the presence of the dignitaries, making the occasion a memorable celebration of the students’ dedication and sporting excellence. The march past winners were grades VI A, VII B, VIII A, IX D and X C, recognised for their discipline, coordination and team spirit.
The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Tr Josna, followed by the symbolic extinguishing of the sports flame by the physical education teachers. The school flag was then lowered with due honour. Sports minister Anvitha A and deputy sports minister Adwika K P carefully folded the flag and handed it to Nachiketh, physical education director, who presented it to the chief guest and subsequently to principal Sr Jenifer Moras AC for safe preservation until the next sports day. The national anthem marked the formal conclusion of the celebrations.
The programme was compered by Izma Fathima (Grade X D), Sanvitha Ravish (Grade VIII A), Jea Leann Mascarenhas (Grade X D), and Simra Mariyam (Grade IX B).
The annual sports meet concluded on a memorable note, leaving behind cherished moments, valuable lessons and an enduring spirit of sportsmanship, inspiring every young Agnesian to strive, persevere and excel.
