Mangalore Bicycle Club emerges podium winner at Ultra Spice 1000 km race Goa

Mangaluru, Jan 31: Mangalore Bicycle Club participated in the Ultra Spice Race 1000 kms team category and the race was flagged off on January 27 at 7 am from Bogmalo Beach, Goa. The team consisting of 11 members, 3 riders- Srikantharaja, Masood Teekay and Hariprasad B and 8 crew members- Ganesh Nayak, Hariprasad Shevire, Madhukar, Venu Vinod, Joel Fernandes, Sunil Mendes, Pritam Sharma and Chinmaya Delampady won the first place in the 1000 km relay style race, completing the distance in 43.59 hours. The total distance of 1000 kms covered flat, rolling and uphill stretches, riding under the scorching sun, pitch dark mid night, chilly morning, manoeuvring through the busy traffic, dusty roads without any break for 44 hours by all 3 racers with solid determination and commendable team support. The sponsors A J Hospital and Research Centre and Jyoti Cycle & Fitness who encouraged the entire team for taking part in this first of its kind event thereby leading Mangalore Bicycle Club to the podium finish are greatly appreciated.

All three racers are just one to one and a half years old into cycling and began their cycling journey with MBC mainly for fitness and leisure. In less than two years getting into endurance and race mode and winning the same is something which deserves special acknowledgement. Despite being busy at their respective professions, all three racers started their training under Bikey Venky from BV Coaching, Bengaluru with the support of the club. Disciplined and dedicated approach over the last two to three months have rewarded them with this achievement. Support crew of eight members played an equally important role in this race, ensuring riders had a smooth ride throughout the route with regular supply of nutrition, hydration and of course, loads of motivation all through the race distance.

To its credit MBC has many unique initiatives like individual races, team based challenges focusing both on fitness and endurance.
