Mangaluru: Special cover commemorating birth anniversary of U S Mallya released

Mangaluru, Feb 3: Observing the 115th birth anniversary of late Ullal Srinivas Mallya, a special cover through and with the help and guidance of postal department Srinivas Nagar, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK) post office was released recently.

U Srinivas Mallya or Sheenappa Mallya in Dakshina Kannada is the architect of Modern Canara District or master planner and a true politician. In his 18 years tenure as Member of Parliament, from 1946-1965 he did not speak a single word. But he was instrumental in getting several nation building projects in Mangaluru.



The function was followed by a formal meet ay ATB seminar hall at NITK campus in the presence of chief guest post master general S Rajendra Kumar, guests of honour Dr G G Laxman Prabhu, HOD, Urology Department, KMC Mangaluru, Dr B Rajagopal Samaga, and Srinivas Rai. The programme was presided over by K Umamaheshwar Rao.

Kasturi Balakrishna Pai welcomed the gathering. Swetha D’Souza compered the programme.

Anekallu Gopalakrishna Prabhu, Narahari Mallya, Dr Gopinath Shenoy, Prakash Shettigar and Ullal Gurucharan Mallya, G V Lakshminarayana, assistant superintendent of Post Office, Dinesh P, assistant superintendent of Post Office, Joseph Rodriguez, assistant superintendent of Post Office /Manager NSH Mangaluru, Maxi Pinto, assistant superintendent of Post Office, Mangaluru East Sub Division, Dayananda Devadiga, inspector of post, Mangaluru North Sub Division, Lester D’Souza, inspector of post, Mangaluru North Sub Division, Jayalakshmi, Post Master, NITK Srinivas Nagar post office, Surathkal and Seema and Akshatha, OA, Mangaluru Divisional Office, Balmatta were present.

Programme concluded with vote of thanks by K B Pai followed by national anthem.
