Bengaluru, Mar 2: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has convened an all party meeting on March 7 on the Cauvery issue to decide the future course of action.

The decision to convene the all party meeting is a fall-out of the recent the recent decision of the Supreme Court giving “partial relief” to Karnataka by awarding an additional 14.75 TMC of Cauvery water to the state last month.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would chair the meeting, which would discuss all issues related to the award including the formation of the Cauvery Management Board.

The State Government has been opposing the formation of the Board.

JD(S) already expressed its reservations on the Supreme Court verdict.

Leaders of the Opposition BJP and JD (S) would take part in the meeting and provide suggestions to the government on the Apex Court verdict and the possible stand to be taken by the Government in the future.

However, it remains to be seen the approach and stand of BJP as it is the responsibility of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre which will have to implement the apex court’s direction on constituting the Cauvery Management Board as the latter would be virtually taking over the management of all the reservoirs in the Cauvery basin. If the Modi government goes ahead with the formation of the Board, it will seriously affect the BJP hoping to stage a comeback in Karnataka.
