Mangaluru, Apr 8: Minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader on Saturday April 7 faced an unexpected gherao from hundreds of angry youths at his home constituency Ullal near here.

On Saturday evening, Khader was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony of a conference organized by SKSSF at Ullal.

Just before he went up to the stage, Khader was gheraoed by hundreds of youths who had participated in the conference. They gathered near the stage, not allowing the minister to pass through.

They alleged that U T Khadar had put pressure on authorities to deny permission for the same conference.

The youths shouted slogans against Khadar and sought answers to why he had pressured the authorities.

Khadar tried to convince them that with elections round the corner, it would have been difficult for a public conference to go on as it may have violated the model code of conduct.

Religious leaders and the organisors intervened and brought the situation under control. Khader participated in the conference and was careful not to speak on politics.
