M'lore: Bendore Parish Legion of Mary Celebrates Presidium Day

Mangalore, Sep 29: The Legion of Mary, St Sebastian church, Bendore, celebrated Presidium Day on Saturday September 27. The programme held at St Sebastian auditorium, was presided over by Fr Ronald Cutinho, director, diocesan legion of Mary.
 
Presidium rector Fr Naveen Pinto, legion of Mary Bendore parish president Alice D’ Souza and vice-president Cynthia Fernandes were present on the occasion. Earlier, the Eucharistic mass was offered by Fr Coutinho.
 
Judith Mascarenhas delivered the welcome address along with a song by the legionaries. Cecilia D’Souza, president of Bendore Presidium, offered a bouquet to Fr Coutinho.



Young children performed dances. Fr Pinto, Fr Cutinho, and parish priest Fr Peter Noronha, delivered messages to the legionaries. Bendore parish Presidium has around 30 active legionaries. Besides, the legion of Mary has an active prayer service.
 
The programme was compered by Margaret Rego. The legion of Mary was originally started in 1921 in Dublin, Ireland, and began at Bendore parish in 1945.

    I was thrilled to read the report on the praesidium function at St. Sebastian church, Bendore. Though it was started in Dublin in 1921 on the eve of the Nativity of our Blessed Lady, today it has spread all over the world dealing only in Spiritual activities such as home visitation, hospital visitation, home for the aged, orphanages, teaching catechism to name a few of the activities of the Legion of Mary.

    If possible this function should be held on or around the feast of the Nativity of our Blessed Lady that is 8th September. Wishing the Legionaries all the best. May our Blessed Mother bless your efforts in the vineyard of her son Jesus for the greater glory of God. I belong to the praesidium of Immaculate conception, Holy Family Basilica, Nairobi - the praesidium started by Venerable Edel Quinn on 8th December 1936 and the meetings have been going on every week without a single interuption.
